Athan Tashobya is a Political Journalist with The New Times Publications—Rwanda’s only English Daily. Athan is a qualified Multimedia Journalist from Thomson Foundation (UK) and also a student of International Relations and Politics at Kigali Independent University. He has practiced Journalism since 2010. Athan joined The New Times in 2014, prior to that he worked with several media houses in the region. At The New Times, Athan has covered almost all major events locally, as Presidential Correspondent and a regular news reporter on Rwanda’s Current and Environmental affairs. Athan has also produced a number of video documentaries for The New Times’ online platform. His bi-cultural and multimedia background; and focus on sensitive topics relating to politics and environment has led him to a number of high-profile media assignments both in Rwanda and beyond such as South Korea, Turkey, Republic of Sudan, Ethiopia, Morocco among other countries. He has received numerous journalism awards, including; Rwanda’s Best News reporter 2016, Best Features writer and Magazine producer 2017 and has been nominated twice for Media Personality of the Year (2017, 2018), finishing 3rd and 2nd respectively.
