Kampala, July 30, 2021 – The LéO Africa Institute and Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) in Uganda are thrilled to announce the 2021 Class of the Huduma Fellowship. The fellows start their one-year journey on a deeper understanding of the public sector in Uganda and growth as conscious civic and public sector champions.
“The conditions of governing across Africa and the world are changing tremendously and in increasingly unpredictable ways,” said William Babigumira, a faculty member at the LéO Africa Institute, ahead of the announcement.
“When a creeping pandemic significantly impacts our well-being, a heightened sense of public service is required to renew the social contract between the government and its citizens. The Huduma Fellowship heralds a practical approach towards building the best possible public servant, capable of navigating perilous times diligently, with integrity, and for Uganda’s greater good,” he continued, before congratulating the Institute and KAS for achieving this significant milestone. “I am proud to associate with this important milestone”.
“Today’s changing public service landscape requires a new breed of agile and innovative public and civil servants. The Huduma Fellowship is an initiative by the LéO Africa Institute and Konrad Adenauer Stiftung to provide thought leadership training for emerging civic and public sector champions in Uganda.
Every year, the program will enroll 15 outstanding fellows, who already work in the public sector or aspire to do so. These fellows from multidisciplinary backgrounds will undertake a year-long training on various aspects of leadership, public affairs management, and policymaking.
For more than three decades, Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) in Uganda has cooperated with governmental institutions, political parties, and civil society organizations to bring people together to embrace their responsibilities in society.
The Huduma Class of 2021 joins the LéO Africa Institute’s growing network of fellows across Africa committed to leading successful and high-impact lives.
